What Are Body Wisdom Classes?
Body Wisdom classes are a form of body work based on the practices of Moshé Feldenkrais. The classes range from movement lessons in person or on Zoom to hands-on-lessons that support life transitions of all kinds. These services create a place of self-trust, compassion and support. Whether working with seniors for balance, kayakers refining their stroke, performers enhancing stage presence or anyone seeking pain relief, they holds a space where the student becomes their own best teacher. Participants consistently report "breakthrough moments" and discoveries that transfer to daily life
Carie’s Classes
-
It’s called a ‘hands-on class’ because the time together is about you learning what works more easily, more elegantly, for you. In a sense Carie is your teacher using touch, but really it is more that she’s awakening your own inner teacher—calling to your body wisdom. In this way, the experience is simultaneously gentle and powerful.
-
Do you have a particular skill you want to level up to? An ache that you just haven’t yet learned to support out of existence? Do you feel you can’t do such-and-such anymore but you really want to? Individual classes are FANTASTIC for just that kind of transformation!
-
In the class, you’ll give some TLC to your most achy joints and muscles, such as hands and wrists, hips, lower back, shoulders, neck. You will learn movement sequences that will also help with balance and edging, for instance by fostering more coordination between your pelvis and head. In each class, you’ll learn a few tricks you can apply on the water. You’ll learn ways to give yourself a second or third wind, to relieve strain and to get more out of your stroke.

Body Wisdom is a wonderful modality for older people—as Carie has discovered for herself! Gentle but transformative, emphasizing balance and self-confidence, this method fulfills Carie’s wish for herself and for her clients: to feel ageing as an ongoing process of improvement and adaptation rather than as an overall limitation.

Body Wisdom lessons, whether hands-on or in a group class, are a great way to support learning of almost any kind: sports of course, and any kind of learning that requires creativity, body awareness or self-knowing—think Improv, Creative Writing, Communication Skills…. Clowning, Drawing, Writing, Meditation.
How Feldenkrais is Practiced?
Feldenkrais for seniors is often taught in two formats:
Awareness Through Movement (ATM): This is a verbal lesson where a teacher guides participants through gentle, exploratory movements. It can be done while sitting, lying down, or standing, and the pace is slow to encourage awareness. It works great through Zoom!
Functional Integration (FI): This is a hands-on approach where the practitioner physically guides the student through movements to help them find new, more efficient the-real-me ways of moving. This can be especially helpful for those with mobility issues or pain.
Carie offers both ATMs and FIs and everything in between!
