What Are Body Wisdom Classes?
Body Wisdom classes are a form of body work based on the practices of Moshé Feldenkrais. These services create a place of self-trust, compassion and support. Whether working with seniors for balance, kayakers refining their stroke, performers enhancing stage presence or anyone seeking pain relief, these classes hold a space where the student becomes their own best teacher.
These aren't exercise classes or therapy sessions. They're explorations that wake up your own inner teacher through patient, aware movement. Whether you're feeling your age, hitting performance plateaus, or just curious about how your brain-body system actually works, these lessons help you rediscover possibilities that have been there all along.
How Do Body Wisdom Classes Work?
Body Wisdom classes consist of a collection of workshops, clinics and classes that cover various subjects. Each subject hones in on a specific focus (aging, strengthing, pain relief, etc). Clients have the option to join at a level that allows them to participate in any subject they want - or alternatively if they only have interest in a few they can pick one or two. See below for more information!
Classes Structure
-
Workshops are small, collaborative classes with group discussion. Think of them as intimate, interactive experiences - about half the length of a traditional ATM lesson, which for most people is plenty. There's opportunity to talk as a group, share discoveries, and learn from each other's experiences. These sessions have become surprisingly community-building, creating connections that go beyond the typical Feldenkrais experience.
-
Clinics are live, personalized sessions where you bring your specific questions and movement challenges. These are completely improvisational and interactive - I work with whatever issues participants bring that day. No two clinics are alike, and they're not recorded, so you need to show up to get this customized attention.
-
Classes (like Neuroplasticity and Level Up) are full hour-long sessions - traditional format but with all the usual Carie twists.

As we age it becomes all the more important to be able to access your own inner teacher. Age can so often be a matter of having slowly let options go–through accidents and illnesses, through cultural pressures and by way of experience in how you sit or who you know.
You tripped on a curb, you guarded yourself while you healed, and then you forgot to let the guarding go, until now you don’t move your ankle as much as you used to. As much as you could. Maybe you even forgot how your ankle once moved. In Body Wisdom, you’ll remember. And in this lesson that you teach yourself, many of your options can be restored.
-
These lessons offer flexibility, balance, efficient movement and pleasure, all rolled into one. They are for active people who are starting to feel their bodies changing - maybe shoulders are tighter after desk work, the back protests after weekend projects, or you're just not moving with the same ease you once did.
Carie's underlying principle is to awaken your own inner teacher and students are deeply satisfied by the transformations that they themselves bring about.

This series is amazing for athletes and physically active individuals. Your coach has taught you technique, your trainer has built your strength. These Feldenkrais lessons can help you use what you’ve developed in a more integrated way. But maybe you have plateau’d or maybe you are feeling too much wear and tear. Reclaim the joy of your favorite sport.
Through movement explorations in these Body Wisdom classes, you’ll discover how changes in organization can create significant improvements in pleasure and performance
-
This class explores flexibility in body, mind, and creativity through movement and awareness. Rather than just asking you to notice your ribs expanding, Carie invites you to notice how you notice—encouraging awareness of awareness itself. This gentle shift in thinking can feel like a “brain stretch,” creating a mental suppleness that parallels physical flexibility.
In this series, Carie emphasizes what she calls “brain flips.” Through slow, meditative movement, you’ll experiment with shifting perspectives: sensing yourself from the outside in, mapping through vibration instead of vision, or exploring “moodscapes” that connect physical and emotional awareness. These lessons invite curiosity about how your inner senses communicate—and how awareness itself can influence balance and ease.
-
Drawing on Carie’s 30 years of facilitative mediation experience, these sessions help you notice how you organize yourself in difficult conversations. This is a conversational class, offering classic communication and decision-making teaching - with maybe a little aware movement now and then - to open up choices in how you wish to manage your conflict patterns.
Feldenkrais principles and the facilitative mediation that Carie practices are remarkably similar. She’s not the ‘teacher’ in order to fix you or provide solutions--insights, sometimes. Skills, often. But you are the real teacher and it is the person you want most to be that creates your goal--if indeed you need a goal.

How Feldenkrais is Practiced?
Feldenkrais is often taught in two formats:
Awareness Through Movement (ATM): This is a verbal lesson where a teacher guides participants through gentle, exploratory movements. It can be done while sitting, lying down, or standing, and the pace is slow to encourage awareness. It works great through Zoom!
Functional Integration (FI): This is a hands-on approach where the practitioner physically guides the student through movements to help them find new, more efficient the-real-me ways of moving. This can be especially helpful for those with mobility issues or pain.
Carie offers both ATMs and FIs and everything in between!
